Pirooz believes that people are yearning for travel, leading to the rise of limewashed finishes and subtle, muted walls. Her clientele is moving away from stark white walls, opting for warmer tones like terracotta, sage green, and soft marigold shades. She’s also seen a surge in pastels, with her favorites being a blend of pistachio and rose blush, which are set to shine throughout 2022!

Before the pandemic, lighter shades and whites were popular, but Nusser observes a shift towards bold colors and vibrant statements as people seek to enliven their environments after spending so much time indoors. Homes are becoming more colorful and dynamic.

Gentry notes, “After being confined for so long, people want to embrace joy, which is why the maximalist trend is gaining traction.”

Rich earthy tones, jewel colors, and soft, luxurious textures will dominate well into 2022. Dotolo adds, “Homeowners desire vibrant designs that uplift their spirits and feel celebratory.”

Say goodbye to stark whites and grays!

All four experts agreed that gray paint is officially out of style—that’s a clear consensus! Gentry explained, “We’re moving away from cool grays and adopting creamier neutrals.” Look for paints with warm yellow and pink undertones rather than cool blues and greens.

Dotolo has noticed a preference for warm whites over harsh whites, reflecting how people want their homes to feel today. While white walls will always play a role in design, icy whites are no longer the standard for entire spaces. Softness is key, even with brighter whites.

There’s a warmer trend emerging, even among neutral shades. Dotolo emphasizes that comfort and warmth are essential for making a home a refuge from the outside world.
