Countertops play a pivotal role in kitchen design, influencing both aesthetics and durability. Selecting the right kitchen countertops can be daunting, which is why we often consult designers for insights on enduring trends.

As we approach 2026, I reached out to interior designers to uncover which countertop styles they predict will take center stage. Here are the 11 trends worth noting.

What Kitchen Countertop Styles Will Be Popular in 2026?

While some trends from 2025 carry over, an expanding variety of options awaits—from timeless natural stones like quartzite to man-made materials with vibrant hues.

Choosing a countertop color can depend on kitchen size, making it challenging. These designer-endorsed trends provide a solid starting point.

1. Terrazzo

Retro design is experiencing a revival, with 70s terrazzo countertops expected to make a comeback in 2026.

“Terrazzo offers an organic texture that adds subtle luxury,” says Ruth Milne of Studio Milne. “Resin terrazzo is particularly beneficial for kitchens due to its stain resistance and ease of maintenance.”

“It’s perfect for introducing color while remaining refined, pairing well with wood cabinetry and neutral walls. I often pick out terrazzo tones to coordinate with kitchen tiles or wall colors for a cohesive look.”

2. Stainless Steel

Stainless steel countertops are making a stylish return, reminiscent of 90s kitchens but now valued for their sleekness and durability.

“They lend a professional vibe and are easy to maintain,” notes Ruth, suggesting they work best when integrated with stainless steel appliances and fixtures. Balancing with warmer elements makes the space inviting.

3. Natural Quartzite

In 2026, natural stones will regain popularity, attracting homeowners for their tactile beauty and unique variations.

“Concerns over man-made quartz are driving clients toward natural options,” explains Melissa Holt of Holt Design House. “Honed marble or quartzite aligns with a trend favoring materials that embody elegance and sustainability.”

“Quartzite, especially varieties like Taj Mahal, offers natural beauty while ensuring durability,” adds Tom Wicksteed from 202 Design. “It suits both minimalist and traditional kitchens, with unique slabs providing a special touch.”

4. Colorful Stone Countertops

Expect to see a rise in colorful stone countertops in 2026, particularly rich colors like deep green and burgundy.

“Countertops are becoming focal points in kitchen design, moving away from predictable neutrals,” shares Mor Krisher, head of design at Caesarstone. “Homeowners want to express their individuality through their countertops.”

Sallie Lord from GreyHunt Interior adds, “Natural stones rich in color, like Calcutta marble, embrace the organic movement and personal significance.”

5. Unique Edge Profiles

Countertop trends will also highlight intricate edge details. Homeowners are opting for crafted profiles like cove bullnose and ogee over basic square cuts.

“Expressive edge profiles showcase craftsmanship and add uniqueness, echoing softer forms in the kitchen,” says Tom Wicksteed. “Minimal cabinetry allows these details to shine as design statements.”

6. Slip-matched Marble

Tom notes that the mirrored approach to marble is losing appeal, with slip-matching gaining favor for its elegance.

“This technique creates a continuous veining effect, offering a sophisticated and timeless look, particularly in larger areas,” he explains.

7. Patinated Metal Accents

Beyond stainless steel, warmer metals with patinated finishes are set to become popular, particularly as surfaces for kitchen islands.

“Materials like zinc and bronze add a rich texture, contrasting beautifully with stone,” Tom explains. “Patinated finishes develop character over time, enhancing the kitchen's warmth.”

8. Marble and Soapstone

Marble and soapstone remain timeless favorites, celebrated for their luxurious texture and enduring beauty.

“Clients are drawn to these natural stones for their classic appeal,” says Kathryn Murphy. “They evoke a sense of history and memory that’s invaluable in a home.”

9. Slim Countertops with Large Backsplashes

2026 trends are shifting toward slimmer countertop designs paired with oversized backsplashes.

“Combining thin, solid-color counters with a large, organic backsplash creates a minimalist yet inviting space,” says Kassin Adelman of IDF Studio. “Personal pieces add warmth and charm.”

10. Mixed Countertop Materials

Designers anticipate a rise in kitchens featuring various countertop materials, blending natural stone, wood, and durable options.

“I’m seeing more mixed materials—combining wood and stone, or quartz on the perimeter with natural stone on the island,” says Laura Fox. “Two-tone approaches create visual interest and contrast.”

11. Warm, Neutral Tones

While bold stones are trendy, soft neutral tones remain popular for a calming, minimalist kitchen.

“In 2026, warm, natural stones like creamy hues and soft beige will dominate,” shares Artem Kropovinsky. “These understated colors create a relaxed atmosphere and blend well with various styles.”

From classic marble to innovative edge profiles, there are many stylish options to enhance your kitchen. Avoid outdated trends and opt for timeless designs that stand the test of time.
