Retro design is experiencing a revival, with 70s terrazzo countertops expected to make a comeback in 2026.
“Terrazzo offers an organic texture that adds subtle luxury,” says Ruth Milne of Studio Milne. “Resin terrazzo is particularly beneficial for kitchens due to its stain resistance and ease of maintenance.”
“It’s perfect for introducing color while remaining refined, pairing well with wood cabinetry and neutral walls. I often pick out terrazzo tones to coordinate with kitchen tiles or wall colors for a cohesive look.”
2. Stainless Steel
Stainless steel countertops are making a stylish return, reminiscent of 90s kitchens but now valued for their sleekness and durability.
“They lend a professional vibe and are easy to maintain,” notes Ruth, suggesting they work best when integrated with stainless steel appliances and fixtures. Balancing with warmer elements makes the space inviting.

“Clients are drawn to these natural stones for their classic appeal,” says Kathryn Murphy. “They evoke a sense of history and memory that’s invaluable in a home.”
