I've earned the title of "designated recipe tester" among my friends, and I love inviting them over for a fun girls' night where we can whip up something adventurous together. And yes, the best part is enjoying our creations!

While watching Crazy Rich Asians, I was inspired by the scene where the family bonds over dumpling making. It highlighted the joy and significance of this culinary art. So, I dove in!

making homemade potstickers

After sifting through countless blogs and video tutorials, I settled on crafting pork and veggie potstickers. These delightful dumplings, known as gyoza in Japan, are pan-fried then steamed. I shared my cooking adventure on Instagram, and soon my friends were buzzing with excitement for a cooking night!

These potstickers are perfect for a girls' gathering. They're easy to prepare, simple to fold while chatting, and they cook up quickly!

Ask your friends to bring wine, and whip up an Asian salad as a side dish, and you're all set!

The filling features pork, mushrooms, carrots, cabbage, chives, garlic, ginger, and delicious Asian sauces. Hand your friends some cutting boards and knives for finely chopping!

All ingredients for the filling go into one bowl, making cleanup simple. Once everything's mixed, it's time to get our hands dirty!

After mixing the filling, fill a small bowl with water, open the defrosted dumpling wrappers, and let the fun begin!

Step One

Wet the edges of a dumpling wrapper with your finger dipped in water. This will help seal the dumpling when you pinch it closed.

Step Two

Add filling to the center of the wrapper. Use a spoon to control the amount—you don't want to overstuff, or they won't cook properly!

Step Three

Hold the filled dumpling with your thumb and middle finger, using your index finger to shape the filling into a cylinder.

Step Four

Now comes the fun part! Pinch the corner of the dumpling and create pleats along one side, pressing them together as you go.

Encourage everyone to enjoy the process! It may take practice to perfect the pleating, but as long as they're sealed, they'll cook beautifully.

Once you've filled all the wrappers, it's time to cook them up. I love the crispy, caramelized bottom from pan-frying. When they're golden, add some water and cover to finish cooking.

The joy on everyone's face after their first bite is priceless. Plus, this recipe yields around 50 potstickers, so there's plenty to share!
