Creating a Thanksgiving Table with Pumpkins, Leaves, and Earthy Hues

This year, I'm inspired by pumpkins and autumn leaves in deep, earthy tones. I start by diving into my own collection of vases, candles, and linens to see what fits. The challenge is to style them in a refreshing way. As I shop for new items, I consider seasonal trends but also prioritize timeless qualities that will work with my collection for years.

This year, I decided to introduce a new color to my trusted Heath Ceramics plates, which I've had in white and matte grey for ages. The caramel hue of these stoneware plates caught my eye–the matte finish feels modern, and the simple contours exude an organic vibe. Plus, the price for a four-piece set is fantastic, especially since they're handmade.

I like to blend ceramic and wood candlesticks for a cozy yet polished appearance. Some are elegant marble pieces collected over time, while others are budget-friendly. When combined, they create a stunning display. This year, I opted for soft yellow beeswax candlesticks instead of white, and they're a fantastic deal from Target.

Incorporating the colors and textures of food into my table design is essential: a simple three-ingredient appetizer serves as a perfect Thanksgiving snack and brightens my centerpiece. I recommend starting with a thick wedge of blue cheese (like stilton or cambozola), adding fruit and nut-studded crackers, and including fall fruits like figs or pomegranates.

This year, I was inspired to use a classic pumpkin motif, but in muted, earthy colors. No bright orange here! I wanted decor I could use for many seasons, so I browsed Joann's extensive selection of faux pumpkins and gourds, ordered a few, and spread them across my tablecloth for an organic look that's far from Halloween. Everyone thinks they're real!

Let's discuss centerpiece ideas! With fruit, foliage, and flowers, there are numerous options. Living near an amazing wholesale flower market, I gathered beautiful autumn leaves, seeded eucalyptus, and olive branches. I chose an oversized brown vase for the centerpiece and a smaller glass vessel for support. I arranged them, allowing the natural shapes of the branches to guide my styling. Next, I added a few dried flowers, like protea and berries, between the leaves. Mixing fresh foliage with dried elements creates a moody, autumnal aesthetic that lasts for weeks.

While last year's Thanksgiving table showcased our raw teak dining table, I opted for a more polished look this year with a simple white linen tablecloth. I lightly pressed it but embraced its natural wrinkles, creating a lovely backdrop for my seasonal decor.
